The arts community offers exhibits and events throughout the year for visual arts, dance, music, theater performances and literary events. Who and Where?
Where are all these events taking place? The area from Calabash to Georgetown is home to three art museums, 37 art galleries, three artists guilds, eight local libraries with arts presentations and five theatre companies. Arts events are also hosted or sponsored by Coastal Carolina University, The Long Bay Symphony, Carolina Master Chorale and Brookgreen Gardens - just to name a few! Add in the performances by local dance academies, fun film festivals, special lectures and poetry readings and you'll see there is always something exciting happening!
Getting in the Know
Many locals turn to the non-profit website The Arts Grand Strand for their extensive calendar of events listing everything "Arts" happening throughout the Grand Strand. The site's blog reports that every year there are more than 100 musical performances by professional classical music and jazz musicians or ensembles, 100 art events and exhibits, 300 performances of 30 plays and 100 author and poet presentations or readings. As a growing metropolitan area, Myrtle Beach is well on its way to becoming a unique and unexpected center for fine arts.
Now that you are in the know, you can use the new year to explore all of the magical one-of-a-kind experiences, beautiful exhibits, breathtaking shows and thoughtful presentations the Myrtle Beach area arts community has to offer. Dust off that planner you got for the holidays and start filling it up with all of the fine arts events that catch your fancy along the Grand Strand!
